The Ministry of Education invites the public to wear mismatched socks tomorrow, Friday, 21 March 2025.
The Ministry of Education, OECS Pearl and the Grenada Down Syndrome Association join the rest of the world in celebrating World Down Syndrome Day under the theme “Improve Our Support Systems.”
The US Centres for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) defines Down Syndrome as a condition in which a person has an extra copy of Chromosome 21.
Chromosomes are small “packages” of genes in the body’s cells, which determine how the body forms and functions. Typically, the nucleus of each cell contains 23 pairs of chromosomes, half of which are inherited from each parent.
All are encouraged to participate in the “Rock your Socks” campaign by wearing vibrant, mismatched socks on Friday, 21 March 2025. This raises awareness and advocates for the rights, inclusion and well-being of people with Down Syndrome.
The Ministry of Education extends its gratitude for the public’s anticipated support in the collective effort to challenge and dismantle stereotypes surrounding individuals with Down Syndrome. Together, let us foster an environment of understanding, respect, and inclusiveness.
