The goal of the GFNC is to periodically highlight its staff members, as every day they contribute to improving the health and well-being of our tri-island state. Below, you can read Stephanie Morain’s sentiments about her role.
“My name is Stephanie Morain, and I am a nutrition officer with the Grenada Food and Nutrition Council (GFNC). In my role as a nutrition officer with responsibility for St Andrew, my monthly duties include assessing the nutritional status of children referred for failure to thrive and any other nutritional issues. I also assist in promoting the best feeding practices for infants and young children at daycares and schools and strive to promote healthy lifestyle practices through practical and educational sessions at different clinics and communities in St Andrew.
The most fulfilling part of my job is witnessing behavioural change. The ability to see lifestyle changes in individuals as they relate to their health and well-being is a wonderful feeling because, although providing the information is important, it means nothing if there is no application of the given information. Seeing a change in one’s diet and lifestyle choices — such as reading food labels, eating more vegetables, avoiding highly processed foods, and engaging in physical activity regularly — means that they can now impact others. This can eventually create an ongoing cycle of promoting healthier eating habits and traditions that can even be passed on from one generation to the next. That is the power of behavioural change, and I am fulfilled knowing that I can contribute to a healthier Grenada. I am proud to be a nutrition officer with the Grenada Food and Nutrition Council.
The mission of the GFNC is to promote the health and well-being of the Grenadian population, encouraging them to make informed food choices and practice healthy lifestyles.
