Laluna Art Project is hosting Kristianne Buxo’s first solo exhibition on Friday, 22 November 2024.

About the Artist:

Kristianne Buxo is a self-taught artist working in acrylic and mixed media. Deeply connected to her Grenadian heritage and identity, she takes much of her inspiration from the island’s culture and flora. Known for her use of bright colours, patterned dot work and pointillism, her paintings are a combination of representational and abstract art.

Artist Statement:

Through the lens of nostalgia, I endeavour to preserve and honour elements of Grenadian culture especially those that are being lost completely to time. It is my fascination with this melting pot of peoples and their traditions over the centuries that drives me to create.

I choose bold colours to reflect the flamboyant hues that envelop me on my tropical island. My repetitive patterns and rhythmic circles are reminiscent of our pulsating music and dance, even the undulating lilt of our accent all whilst showered with the warm golden sun which I represent with flecks of gold in my work.

It is this cadence in nature and people, that is the essence of being a West Indian. I look at the world I live in and love, I listen to the journeys of others, especially my elders and all the folklore passed down and I am inspired to document my experience as well as those who have shared their stories with me.

The location is known as the Laluna Art Project and comprises the elements of Art and hospitality — an experimentation of art, food, and beverage. The Art Space is the gallery display area featuring works from local artists. It is open for viewing every day from 9 am to 6 pm. 100% of the sales go directly to the artist as part of Laluna’s commitment to helping local artists.

The Monkey Bar is open every Friday, Saturday, and Sunday from lunch to sunset. It features a Sunday local dish and is also available for private events. The main entrance is from the Portici Beach public beach access in Point Salines on the way to Dr Grooms Beach. The Sculpture Garden is 2 acres of beachfront land called the “Enchanted Forest.” It comprises Land Art that continues to evolve with new art installations, creating a platform of inventive creations, such as upcycling plastics into art sculptures.
