The Meteorological Office (Met Office) has issued a flood and landslide warning for the state of Grenada for today, Tuesday, 19 November 2024.
The Met Office advised the National Disaster Management Agency (NaDMA) that due to a surface trough, scattered moderate convection associated with a low-level trough in the vicinity of the Windward Islands is producing moderate to heavy showers, and isolated thunderstorms which affected Grenada on Monday night.
Moisture and instability associated with the surface trough will continue to affect the island chain. Consequently, a flood and landslide warning has been issued for the state of Grenada.
As a result, all schools are closed today, Tuesday, 19 November 2024.
Employers are advised to exercise tolerance with workers who are unable to attend work due to the prevailing circumstances. Employees who can work remotely should do so.
There have been several reports of landslides and flooding across the country. The Government of Grenada is concerned about the safety of citizens and is asking for a reduction in the volume of traffic on the road so that emergency workers can continue their work.
The Meteorological services and the National Disaster Management Agency (NaDMA) will continue to monitor the situation and provide timely updates.
Citizens are urged to be vigilant, monitor the weather conditions, and pay attention to the information issued by the Meteorological Office and NaDMA.
