Grenadian Model Raising Funds

Aria FrancisThe young, graceful, Grenadian model, Aria Mary Francis, is seeking to raise funds so that she can once again grace the stage by participating in NY Caribbean Fashion week.

At present, she is not attached to any modelling agency. However her early training and exposure in the field has provided her with opportunities through persons who have identified her ability, and despite the challenges of working alone, the Grenadian Model Aria Mary Francis is once again preparing to walk down the runway — but needs assistance to making this a reality.

“I was invited to be one of the models at Caribbean New York Fashion Week which will be held 7–10 September 2014, but because I am not directly linked to any modelling or fashion agency, I need to take myself there, and that is why I have turned to raising the funds via the online format,” explained Aria.

“Modelling is a profession and I want our people to see those of us who choose to be in that field as making valuable contribution, there is more to it than walking down the runway displaying a design. My invitation to participate is all part of the reward of hard work and support from my family,” said the T A Marryshow Community College student, currently pursuing an Associate Degree in Social Work.

The opportunity for New York came at the invitation of Carla Hazel, the founder and CEO of Face of Fashion — a show which was inspired by the diverse ethnic features and the multi-cultures in the Caribbean and North America.

“I was fortunate this year, when I was accepted to model at the Caribbean Fashion Week in Jamaica, which is the biggest modeling event in the Caribbean. I did really well and was selected to walk the runway for eleven regional and international designers. After I return to Grenada I received the invitation to the Caribbean New York Fashion Week,” said Francis, who is seeking to raise US$2,862 to cover costs. Donations can be made online through Indiegogo.

“The contributions will go towards the airline ticket and other costs associated with the entire stay in New York,” explains Annette Moore who is providing guidance and advice. “While in New York she will also be visiting modelling agencies with a view to gaining exposure and work opportunities,” she added.

Similarly to her experience in Jamaica, Francis is expected to be featured in media reports, since the fashion industry provides coverage for the face of Caribbean.
