As part of measures to address longstanding land tenure challenges and improve access to lawful land ownership, the Ministry of Agriculture, Lands and Forestry is pleased to announce a temporary waiver on accumulated interest on qualifying land accounts.
This temporary waiver was approved by Cabinet in March 2026 and is aimed at supporting eligible allottees in resolving outstanding land payments under the following conditions:
- The account must be within the 12-year payment period
- The occupant must have a valid existing agreement with the Government of Grenada
- The outstanding principal must be paid in full within 90 days of notification
Under existing arrangements, allottees are granted for up to 12 years to complete payment, with an annual compounded interest rate of 5% applied on overdue balances, in some cases exceeding the original purchase price. Failure to comply within the specified period may result in reassessment of the allocation, including subdivision of land or reallocation in accordance with the Crown Lands Act (Chapter 735).
“The Government anticipates a revenue adjustment of approximately EC$10 million, however, this measure reflects its commitment to resolving long-standing land issues and improving access to land ownership,” expressed Judy-Ann Thomas, Project Coordinator for the Land Tenure Regularisation Unit.
Government expects this undertaking to ensure greater fairness, accessibility and efficiency in land administration. Also announced was the setting up of a dedicated secretariat along with 2 sub-offices in St Andrew and St Patrick, which will oversee implementation, ensuring transparency, accountability, and efficient processing of eligible cases. This waiver initiative will run for an initial period of three months from 1 May 2026. Eligible individuals are encouraged to make use of the opportunity to get regularised.
