The National Disaster Management Agency (NaDMA) announces its participation in CARIBE WAVE 2026, the 15th annual regional tsunami preparedness exercise, scheduled for Thursday, 19 March 2026.
Several other Caribbean countries are expected to be involved in the exercise.
Grenada will participate using a scenario where a tsunami is generated by a flank landslide of the Kick ’em Jenny submarine volcano.
Kick ’em Jenny is an active submarine volcano located north of Grenada, and while the likelihood of a tsunami event remains low for Grenada, preparedness exercises ensure that national agencies and communities understand the procedures required to respond quickly and effectively should such an event occur.
NaDMA will conduct evacuations at one school in Carriacou and one in Petite Martinique.
CARIBE WAVE is coordinated by the UNESCO Intergovernmental Oceanographic Commission (IOC) through the Intergovernmental Coordination Group for the Tsunami and Other Coastal Hazards Warning System for the Caribbean and Adjacent Regions (CARIBE-EWS). The exercise forms part of ongoing regional efforts to strengthen tsunami preparedness and response across the Caribbean and adjacent regions.
