Young people between the ages of 14 and 17 are being encouraged to participate in a National Tourism Youth Congress, with the winner being selected to represent Grenada at the Regional Tourism Youth Congress in Guyana in October.
The Ministry of Tourism, Creative Economy and Culture said candidates, who will be drawn from secondary schools as well as the NEWLO Hospitality Department and T A Marryshow Community College (TAMCC) Tourism and Hospitality, will participate in 2 rounds of competition.
The first round requires the submission of a 3-minute video presentation by Friday, 20 March 2026, via email [email protected].
Submissions must be made by the principal or teacher/lecturer designated to do so on behalf of the participating student, following which the top 7 students will be selected to move on to round 2. This will be held in person on Friday, 8 May 2026, to select the top 3 contenders.
During the second round, students will be required to demonstrate their understanding of a shared topic, using audio-visual aids to reinforce their ideas.
They will also be asked to speak on a mystery topic, where they will each be given 3 minutes to read the mystery topic question and prepare a response before the start of the session. They will then be given one minute to present during the mystery topic segment.
The Regional Tourism Youth Congress, an initiative of the Caribbean Tourism Organisation (CTO), is held annually during the State of the Tourism Industry Conference (SOTIC). It engages students aged 14–17 from CTO member countries, mirroring a CTO Board of Directors’ Meeting.
The objective is to foster a deeper understanding among Caribbean youth by encouraging research, discussion and sharing innovative ideas on the future of Caribbean tourism.
Kealah Baptiste, a student of TAMCC, won the competition in 2025 and represented Grenada at the Regional Tourism Youth Congress 2025, which was held in Barbados during the SOTIC conference.
