In a significant step toward deepening regional football cooperation, the Grenada Football Association (GFA) and the Federación Mexicana de Fútbol (FMF), Mexico’s official football governing body, signed a landmark Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) on Tuesday, 13 January at the FMF Headquarters in Mexico City.

The agreement, formalised by Marlon Glean, President, GFA and Mikel Arriola, President, FMF, sets the stage for a bold new chapter of collaboration focused on football development, capacity building, and shared opportunities across both nations.

The MOU formalises a strategic framework for cooperation between both federations across several key areas of football development, including coach and referee training, grassroots and youth programming, inter-federation knowledge exchange, and enhanced media and commercial development.

“This partnership reflects a shared vision for football as a tool for transformation,” said President Glean. “It speaks to FMF’s commitment to supporting emerging football nations and the GFA’s mandate to elevate our structures, players, and potential onto the global stage,” he continued.

The MOU outlines a clear scope of activities and mutual goals through 2026, focused on sustainable development and capacity-building. Some of the initiatives to be pursued under the agreement include:

  • Coach and Referee training exchanges: FMF and GFA will collaborate to facilitate access to high-quality education programs, including scholarships for technical training
  • Youth and grassroots development: Sharing best practices in youth programming and development strategies
  • Friendly match opportunities: Exploring inter-team matches between Grenada’s national teams and Mexican clubs, creating new scouting and exposure pathways
  • Media and commercial strategy support: FMF will assist GFA personnel in developing robust media, communications, and commercial planning frameworks

President Arriola of the FMF expressed his strong endorsement of the collaboration, stating: “We believe in the power of football to unify, develop, and uplift communities. This agreement with Grenada reflects our commitment to regional growth and solidarity. Supporting federations like the GFA contributes to a stronger, more connected football family across the Americas.”

President Glean emphasised that this agreement forms part of his administration’s broader strategic vision to transform Grenadian football through good governance, stakeholder engagement, and international cooperation. He added, “This MOU reinforces the importance of leveraging global relationships to build capacity at the grassroots, institutional, and commercial levels of the game.”

The FMF–GFA agreement stands as a model of North-South collaboration within the CONCACAF region and exemplifies how federations can work together to bridge resources, expertise, and opportunities for the collective good of the sport.

The agreement will remain in effect until 31 December 2026, with both parties committed to joint planning and regular evaluation of cooperation initiatives.
