Technical and logistical support, humanitarian aid and disaster relief collaboration and reflections on the recent visit by the US Navy’s Medical Ship and prospects for future engagements were among topics discussed at a meeting between Admiral Alvin Holsey, Commander of the United States Southern Command, and senior officials of the Royal Grenada Police Force (RGPF) on Wednesday, 15 October 2025.
The meeting at the Police Headquarters on the Carenage, St George’s, according to an RGPF press release, focused on strengthening ongoing cooperation and strategic partnerships between the RGPF and the US Southern Command.
Grenada was one of several Caribbean nations visited by Admiral Holsey, marking one year since he assumed leadership of the command from General Laura Richardson. Other key topics discussed included enhanced training opportunities for law enforcement and joint training exercises to improve RGPF operational readiness.
The engagement was hosted by Commissioner of Police Randy Connaught, Deputy Commissioner Jessmond Prince, Assistant Commissioner in Charge of Crimes Vannie Curwen, and National Security Advisor Wilan Thompson. Admiral Holsey was accompanied by Karin Sullivan, US Ambassador to the Eastern Caribbean States.
“The meeting was cordial and productive, reaffirming the US Southern Command’s commitment to supporting Grenada’s national security efforts,” said the release, which did not provide an explanation for the absence of Prime Minister Dickon Mitchell, who was initially scheduled to be among government officials to meet with Admiral Holsey.
