The St Patrick’s Youth Organisation (SPYO) in collaboration with Investment Migration Agency Grenada (IMA Grenada), are proud to announce the launch of the inaugural IMA Grenada–SPYO Primary School Debate Competition 2025.
This is the second consecutive year that IMA Grenada has stepped up as the title sponsor of the competition, and the 8th year it has been impacting young debaters across Grenada. This year, the competition is open to primary schools from the parishes of St Patrick, St John, St Mark and St Andrew and, for the first time since its inception, St David.
This year’s competition adopts the powerful theme “Empowering the Future: Youth Leadership as the Key to Nation Building.” The competition will see 19 primary schools from across the nation engage in rigorous debate on critical, forward-looking topics. The focus areas for this year include technology for sustainable development, youth governance, and the implications of artificial intelligence, challenging students to think critically about the future of Grenada and their role in shaping it.
The opening ceremony and elimination round of competition commenced on 7 and 8 October, showcasing the brightest young orators who argued on moots related to artificial intelligence. The tournament will unfold over several rounds, building towards a highly anticipated Grand Final in December.
The competition will follow a structured timeline:
- Elimination Round:7–8 October
- Preliminary Round:22 October
- Quarter-Final:5 November
- Semi-Final:19 November
- Grand Final:3 December
Substantial awards and recognition are in place to honour the hard work of the students and schools. The awards include cash prizes for the top institutions worth $13,000, team prizes, special individual awards and participation prizes.
This landmark event is made possible through the generous support of sponsors Rubis, Grenada Cooperative Bank, Republic Bank Grenada Limited, Glenelg Spring Water, True Blue Bay Resort, and the National Lotteries Authority (NLA).
