The Global Water Partnership-Caribbean (GWP-C) continues to lend strong support to the Youth in Action for Climate Change Adaptation Initiative, which began in June of this year.

The initiative, led by the National Adaptation Plan (NAP) Unit under the Ministry of Climate Resilience, the Environment and Renewable Energy, focuses on engaging children and youth across Grenada in meaningful climate action.

Since its launch, the initiative has reached children of all ages. Several pre-primary schools have already been visited, along with summer schools, and more recently, senior students at the primary and secondary school levels.

On Friday, 26 September, with the support of GWP-C, the initiative held outreach activities in Gouyave. During the visit, students from Grand Roy Government School and Concord Government School took part in interactive sessions designed to build awareness and inspire action.

Children explored key topics such as:

  • The drivers of climate change
  • The impacts of climate change on people and communities
  • Grenada’s unique animals and how they are affected
  • The history and importance of water in Grenada

As part of the activities, students also worked together to craft posters highlighting the problems caused by climate change and proposing creative solutions. Each student also received a specially designed colouring book on climate change adaptation, tailored for children, along with exercise books provided by the Ministry of Climate Resilience. In addition, teachers were presented with bags and other tokens of appreciation from GWP-C.

Dr Roxanne Graham-Victor, Regional Coordinator for GWP-C and lead for Grenada’s NAP revision, along with GWP-C Programme Assistant Kerron Martinez, contributed to the sessions, reinforcing GWP-C’s commitment to empowering youth to take climate action, while fostering greater awareness of water conservation.
