The Grenada Senior Men’s National Team (SMNT) continued their strong run of form on Wednesday evening, securing a decisive 4-1 victory over the British Virgin Islands (BVI) in an international friendly at the Kirani James Athletics Stadium.

The result marks Grenada’s 4th consecutive win, a testament to the team’s growing depth, attacking prowess, and renewed sense of unity on home soil.

Grenada took early control of the match, with forward Myles Hippolyte opening the scoring in the 10th minute and doubling the lead in the 39th minute with a composed penalty finish to complete his brace before halftime.

BVI managed to pull one back in the 73rd minute, but Grenada’s response was swift and emphatic. Deanroy Phillip, one of the team’s new inclusions, netted in the 76th minute and then again deep into stoppage time (90+3’) to seal the 4–1 victory.

“The performance reflected our intent; disciplined, confident, and dynamic,” said Assistant Coach Anthony Modeste. “It was encouraging to see both experienced and young players rise to the occasion and make an impact,” he continued.

New additions strengthen the squad

This international window featured several exciting new additions to the national setup, including Joshua Lett, Raheem Raeburn, Josh Thomas, Shaquille Charles, Deanroy Phillip, and Aj Paterson, who made his return to the national side after a 3-year hiatus.

Two members of Grenada’s U17 national programme, Raheem Raeburn and Josh Thomas, were also called up for the fixture, reflecting the GFA’s ongoing commitment to bridging youth development with senior-level experience.

Raeburn, who currently leads the Grenada Premier League in scoring, was identified by the GFA as a standout youth talent and was subsequently sent to an elite academy in Germany this past summer to further hone his skills. His improved performance and maturity on the pitch earned him a well-deserved place on the Senior Men’s National Team roster, a clear demonstration of the GFA’s strategic focus on building national capacity through long-term player development.

Although his match ended early following a red card, his selection underscores the growing opportunities for young Grenadian talent to earn senior caps through consistent performance and discipline.

Grenada vs Cuba on Saturday, 11 October

The SMNT now turns its attention to the next fixture, a high-profile encounter against Cuba this Saturday, 11 October at the Kirani James Athletics Stadium. Kick-off is at 7:30 pm.

“This week’s matches represent the next phase of Grenadian football growth, merging experience, youth, and international exposure,” said Marlon Glean, President, GFA. “We are building a sustainable pathway for development that allows every level of our program, from grassroots to elite, to feed into national success. The progress we are seeing is no coincidence; it is part of a long-term vision to elevate Grenadian football on every front,” President Glean shared.

The GFA extends appreciation to fans, partners, and supporters for their continued encouragement as the national team builds momentum toward upcoming international competitions.

Grenada, please stand against this, principle cannot be bought, integrity is priceless…this request goes against the spirit of peace we desire as a people. Look at Ibrahim Traorae and his stanst against what he and many others consider, heavy handed overreach. The Caribbean is watching Grenada, stand tall with pride.
