The just-concluded 2nd Africa-Caricom Summit in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, has charted a bold and deliberate course for deeper political, economic, and cultural ties between Africa, the Caribbean, and the global African diaspora.

Held under the theme “Transcontinental Partnership in Pursuit of Reparatory Justice for Africans and People of African Descent through Reparations,” the summit brought together Heads of State, ministers and high-level delegations committed to advancing justice, prosperity, and sustainable development across both regions.

Prime Minister the Honourable Dickon Mitchell led the Grenada delegation, accompanied by the Honourable Joseph Andall, Minister for Foreign Affairs, Trade and Export Development. Their participation underscored Grenada’s steadfast commitment to regional solidarity and its determination to ensure that Africa and the Caribbean speak with one united voice on the global stage.

The summit reaffirmed the urgency of remaining connected as Africans and descendants of Africa, making decisions today that will create a legacy of equity and opportunity for future generations. Caricom leaders applauded Africa’s leadership in building stronger ties, with special recognition given to the bold decision by Afreximbank to establish its Caribbean headquarters in Barbados. Beyond this milestone, Afreximbank has also committed to substantial investments across the Caribbean region, reinforcing its role as a catalyst for economic sustainability, trade expansion, and financial resilience.

On the margins of the summit, Hon. Joseph Andall held a series of fruitful bilateral and stakeholder engagements with regional and international partners. Discussions focused on deepening cooperation in key areas such as trade, education, healthcare, renewable energy, cultural exchange, tourism development, and visa facilitation.

Minister Andall described these engagements as highly productive and reaffirmed Grenada’s commitment to translating the discussions into tangible outcomes. He emphasised that the Government of Grenada will work closely with its partners to formalise agreements through the signing of concrete Memoranda of Understanding, ensuring that the initiatives explored deliver measurable results. This commitment he noted, will help unlock new opportunities for trade, investment, education, tourism and sustainable development, while strengthening Grenada’s ties with Africa and the wider international community.
