Hon. Joseph Andall, Minister for Foreign Affairs, Trade and Export Development, and Hon. Philip Telesford, Minister for Health, joined members of the Nigerian community residing in Grenada, to officially welcome a team of Nigerian medical professionals at a ceremony, held at Coyaba Beach Resort on Thursday, 31 July 2025.

The medical team, deployed through the Nigerian Technical Aid Corps (NTAC), includes 2 nephrologists, 2 anesthesiologists, and one orthopaedic specialist. These experts will join the outstanding staff at The General Hospital as part of a wider strategy by the Government of Grenada to enhance healthcare access and improve health outcomes across the nation.

Over the years, Grenada has benefitted from international partnerships, including the deployment of a medical team from Palestine in 2024 and the ongoing support from the Republic of Cuba, which continues to provide medical professionals to strengthen our healthcare workforce. The arrival of the Nigerian specialists further underscores the Government’s determination to close critical gaps in specialist care and upgrade the country’s clinical capacity. Their arrival also comes at an opportune time, following Grenada’s successful hosting of the 4th Annual AfriCaribbean Trade and Investment Forum (ACTIF2025), which further strengthened ties between Africa and the Caribbean.

Minister Andall extended sincere gratitude to Hon. Yusuf Buba Yakub, Director-General of NTAC, for his swift response to Grenada’s request for assistance. He emphasised the significance of this partnership, noting: “We recognise the problem, and the Government of Grenada is taking concrete steps to fix a broken healthcare system. Both the Government and the Ministry of Health give a firm commitment to work with international collaborators to improve the quality, accessibility, and resilience of healthcare services across the country”.

In alignment with this initiative, the Government continues to actively pursue funding opportunities for the construction of a modern teaching hospital, an investment that is expected to strengthen both service delivery and medical training in Grenada.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs continues to play a vital role in supporting national development through strategic diplomacy. By forging bilateral partnerships and technical cooperation agreements, the Ministry has helped secure international resources to advance key national priorities, including health, education, and infrastructure. These efforts underscore Grenada’s proactive approach to global engagement and its dedication to sustainable national transformation.

The Nigerian professionals were encouraged to explore Grenada’s cultural richness and natural beauty while contributing their expertise. Their presence reflects not only the strength of Grenada–Nigeria relations but also the Government’s commitment to responsive governance and fostering meaningful international cooperation.
