Grenada participates in Congress of Chess Confederation of the Americas

More benefits are expected to flow for chess in Grenada following GCF Vice President Carlyle Glean’s attendance at the 17–19 August Congress of the Chess Confederation of the Americas (CCA) in Barranquilla, Colombia.

The CCA Congress coincided with the FIDE World U16 Chess Olympiad at which Grenada was represented, for the very first time, by a team of 4 players.

At the Colombia Congress, Glean was able to confirm arrangements for Grenada to be included in the October 2025 proposed trip of top FIDE “Chess in Education” official Leontxo Garcia to certain countries in the Americas. The GCF aims, as one of its immediate key objectives, to develop the “Chess in Education” concept in Grenada, where Chess is used as an educational tool in schools for teaching regular subjects, including English and Mathematics.

Glean was also able to secure the commitment of Cuba to assist with Arbiters and Trainers for the GCF’s programme to establish and develop chess in schools and communities throughout Grenada, Carriacou, and Petite Martinique.

CCA serves as the governing body for National Chess Federations within the American Continent, covering North, Central and South America and the Caribbean. It represents the Americas in FIDE (International Chess Federation), the world governing body for chess.

Two major upcoming activities of the CCA are the 2nd International Congress on School Chess from 10–14 November 2025, in Havana, Cuba, and the 20th Central American and Caribbean Youth Chess Festival from 14–21 December 2025 in Puerto Rico.
