Following the success of last year’s outreach — where 1,908 Grenadians received complimentary oral healthcare — the Sandals Foundation and Great Shape! Inc.’s 1000 Smiles Project has returned to Grenada, bringing free dental services to even more communities.

The initiative, once again supported by the Grenada Dental Association and the Ministry of Health, aims to improve access to dental care and increase awareness about oral health across the country.

This year’s dental clinics are located at Happy Hill Secondary School and Hillsborough Government School from Monday, 18 August to Friday, 22 August, and Monday, 25 August to Friday, 29 August.

Adults and children are warmly invited to access free dental cleanings, fillings, sealants, and extractions. No appointments are necessary.

Dr Mohammed Hussein, a Toronto-based dentist and longtime Great Shape! volunteer, shared his gratitude for the opportunity to serve. “What Great Shape! and the Sandals Foundation have done to encourage and support us in serving the people of this island and the Caribbean is truly meaningful. This is my first time in Grenada, and everyone has been so welcoming. It’s a privilege to help people here.”

Dr Festina Hamlet, Head of the Dental Department at the Grenada Ministry of Health, is especially elated that the services are reaching the people of Carriacou and Petite Martinique. “After the devastation of Hurricane Beryl, this outreach is another symbol of hope and support. As people focus on rebuilding their homes and lives, personal health can often take a back seat. That’s why the Ministry of Health, together with the Ministry of Carriacou & Petite Martinique Affairs, is proud to support this effort. We urge residents to visit the clinics and prioritise their oral health.”

The Sandals Foundation and Great Shape! Inc. remain committed to supporting underserved communities through compassionate, high-quality dental care and health education.
