Delivering her stirring feature address at a ceremony marking the relaunch of her sister organisation — the Grenada Coalition of Service Industries (GCSI), on the theme “Transformation Through Collaboration and Innovation” — Michelle Smith Mayers, Executive Director of the Barbados Coalition of Service Industries (BCSI) emphasised the shared challenges and opportunities faced by Caribbean service providers, micro island developing states (SIDS), and the importance of coordinated advocacy, digital innovation, and regional solidarity.
To quote Smith-Mayers: “There is strength in sisterhood. Our coalitions are more than institutions; they are vehicles for regional transformation, policy influence, and private sector development.” Smith-Mayers articulated a compelling roadmap for joint ventures, services export development, capacity building, and digital economy integration — urging both GCSI and BCSI to lead a unified regional voice in hemispheric and international arenas. “Together”, she continued, “we can influence policy at the regional level, and build bridges between Caricom and the world. But to do this, we must invest in each other — share best
practices, technical tools, and above all, our trust.”
The event took place at the Galleria Mall, Ministry of Trade Conference Room, Grand Anse, on 25 July. It was also attended by Honourable Joseph Andall, Minister of Foreign Affairs, Trade and Export Development, who did the honours of declaring the launch of GCSI 2.0.
The Grenada Coalition of Service industries (GCSI) is an umbrella organisation, under the auspices of the Ministry of Trade with the mandate to identify, organise and develop local producers of potentially exportable services, and guiding them to a state of “export-readiness” so they can contribute more significantly to employment creation, foreign exchange generation and national economic development.
