“This Government is committed to the reform of our Statutory Bodies and State-Owned Enterprises to ensure that they deliver their mandate in a professional, efficient, and effective manner.”

This was the assertion of Minister for Finance Hon. Dennis Cornwall as he looks forward to the 6th Cohort of the Directors’ Education and Accreditation Programme (DEAP), which will commence on 24 March 2025 at the Coyaba Beach Resort conference room.

The advanced director training course, facilitated by the Eastern Caribbean Securities Exchange (ECSE) and the Chartered Governance Institute of Canada (CGIC), is being delivered on a rolling basis to all statutory bodies and state-owned enterprises, focusing on the areas of Governance for Directors, Finance for Directors, and Strategy and Risk Management.

Advisor, Ministry of Finance Richard Duncan said the course will “ensure that directors of public sector institutions are adequately trained to develop or hone the requisite skillsets, enabling them to effectively exercise the degree of professional oversight required of state-owned entities.”

The DEAP provides a forum for a frank, incisive and insightful discussion on key aspects of governance standards and principles, including the duties and responsibilities of a director and the legal ramifications of being a director. In addition, the sharply focused programme leads to the designation of “Accredited Director,” an internationally recognised accreditation issued by the CGIC.

Having commenced in February 2023, one hundred and twenty-five (125) individuals have now been trained and qualified as Accredited Directors at a total investment of $574,000.

The 6th cohort of 25 directors to receive the training and accreditation include members from the following Statutory Bodies and State-owned Enterprises:

  • Grenada Food and Nutrition Council (GFNC)
  • Grenada Tourism Authority (GTA)
  • Planning and Development Authority (PDA)
  • Grenada Investment Development Corporation (GIDC)
  • Child Protection Authority (CPA)
  • Grenada National Stadium Authority (GNSA)
  • Grenada Transportation Commission (GTC)

This should be across the board for all ministries.
