The National Water and Sewerage Authority (Nawasa), in collaboration with the Media Workers’ Association of Grenada (MWAG), has established the Special Award for Outstanding Journalism in Water, Climate Change, and Environmental Sustainability.

This initiative formalised through a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) at the 13th Annual Media Awards at the Grenada Trade Centre on Saturday, 15 March 2025, marks a shared commitment to recognising and supporting media professionals who bring attention to these critical issues.

Water is life, and in an era of climate uncertainty, the need for accurate, compelling, and solutions-driven reporting has never been greater. Through this award, Nawasa seeks to encourage journalists to explore and highlight the challenges and opportunities surrounding water security, climate resilience, and environmental stewardship in Grenada and the Caribbean.

Beyond recognition, the award represents a tangible investment in professional development, offering a $15,000 sponsorship towards a training opportunity — empowering the recipient to refine their skills and expand their impact.

At Nawasa, we believe that informed communities are empowered communities. By supporting excellence in environmental journalism, we contribute to a more resilient and sustainable future. This award will honor a journalist whose work demonstrates exceptional research, storytelling, and impact, educating the public on water resource challenges, climate adaptation, and environmental sustainability. It stands as a testament to the power of media in shaping public discourse and inspiring positive change.

The recipient is expected to exemplify these values, producing work that is informative, engaging, and transformative — reporting that heightens awareness, encourages action, and contributes to national and regional discussions on sustainability.

As part of our Corporate Social Responsibility, Nawasa’s Communications Supervisor Jamila Lewis was present last Saturday to facilitate the official signing of the MOU between Nawasa and MWAG. Lewis also presented awards to several winners. Nawasa congratulates Christlina John from the Grenada Broadcasting Network (GBN) for securing an impressive 6 awards at the MWAG Awards. GBN won a remarkable 13 awards in total.

On behalf of our Board of Directors, Management, and Staff, Nawasa congratulates all the winners and extends its gratitude to MWAG for recognising the value of this initiative and for partnering with us to celebrate and elevate journalism that makes a difference.

This is a special bribe from Nawasa to prevent these so-called “journalists” from reporting about the hell nawasa making us see on this island. The water crisis in grenada is getting worst while nawasa is hiding behind climate change slogans.

What are the ethics and morals of this organization that claims to represent so-called “journalists” in grenada. This totally shameless! What a joke!
