  • Second Session of 11th Parliament prorogued from 23 September
  • Governor-General signed proclamation on 12 September
  • Parliament resumes late September or early October

The second session of the 11th Parliament will conclude on 23 September 2024, according to a proclamation signed by the Governor-General Dame Cecile La Grenade on 12 September.

“This serves to advise that the 02nd Session of the Eleventh Parliament would be prorogued from the 23rd September, 2024 by Proclamation issued by the Governor-General, Dame Cecile La Grenade, GCMG, OBE, dated 12th September, 2024,” said a notice from the Clerk of Parliament disseminated on 12 September.

The proclamation explained that the prorogation is on the advice of Prime Minister Dickon Mitchell and Parliament will remain prorogued until a date is set for the ceremonial opening that signals the start of the third session of the 11th Parliament.

The Houses of Parliament traditionally prorogue between August and September and resume late September or early October with the Governor-General presenting the Throne Speech which provides the legislative agenda for Government for the upcoming parliamentary year.

During the 2023/2024 parliament year the Houses of Parliament approved several bills including the Recording of Court Proceedings Bill and the Electronic Communications Bill. There were also amendments to several existing legislations, including the Firearms Act, the Passports Act, the Criminal Procedure Code, the Exchange of Control Act, the Friendly Societies Act and the Customs Act.
