Grenadian athletes Ishona Charles and Tyler Smith are gearing up to compete in the Paris Paralympic Games, opening on 28 August 2024 in France.

The 2 field event competitors are hoping to make a big impact in their respective competitions. Charles is participating in her second Paralympic Games following her debut in the 2021 Tokyo Games. She will compete in the women’s F46 javelin and F46 shot put, and Smith will compete in the men’s shot put F43.

The athletes said they are excited to represent Grenada at the Paris 2024 Paralympic Games. Both are being coached by IAAF Certified Level One coach Bassanio Nicholas, who is confident that Charles and Smith will perform with merit in Paris, noting that their work ethic and attitude were positive throughout the preparation programme.

Secretary of the Grenada Paralympic Committee Alvin Clouden will lead the Grenada delegation as Chief of Mission. President of the Grenada Paralympic Committee said Clouden is scheduled to attend several meetings and functions in Paris as General Secretary of the GPC with the goal of increasing friendly relationships with other sports federations within the Paralympic movement.

The Opening Ceremony of the Paris Paralympic Games will take place on Wednesday, 28 August. Thousands of Para athletes from 180 international delegations will parade down the legendary Avenue des Champs-Élysées to the Place de la Concorde.

More than 150 dancers — including many professional dancers with disabilities — will bring the opening ceremony to life with inventive, musical, and humorous choreography.  Paris organisers said their goal is to create a Paralympic ceremony that is a celebration with a mix of important messages.

4,400 athletes will compete to win Paralympic medals in 549 competitions across 22 sports. The action will take place at 20 exceptional venues. The games end on 8 September, and the team is expected to be back on 10 September 2024.
