In preparation for a landmark visit by a high-profile business delegation from China to Grenada on 12 March 2024, Petipha Lewis, the Executive Director of the Grenada Chamber of Industry and Commerce (GCIC), hosted a courtesy meeting with Ambassador Wei Hongtian of the Embassy of China in Grenada and Tan Jiang, Head of the Bilateral Affairs Division of the Embassy.

The purpose of this meeting was to prepare for the forthcoming visit of a delegation from the province of Zhenjiang, China, led by the Vice Chairman of the Standing Committee of Zhenjiang Provincial People’s Congress. The visit is strategically aimed at enhancing cooperation between Zhenjiang, China and Grenada. The focus will be on facilitating exchanges and visits across various levels and strengthening communication in areas of shared interest, including agriculture development, culture, education, human development, technology, and eco-system preservation.

Lewis underscored the significance of nurturing beneficial cooperation, ensuring Grenada remains steadfast in its commitment to sustainable development during its transformative agenda.

Ambassador Hongtian highlighted Zhejiang Province’s prowess in technological innovation and environmental protection techniques. The Ambassador also reaffirmed China’s dedication to establishing relations founded on mutual benefits for both parties.

In a statement, Lewis remarked, “We are excited about the upcoming visit from the Zhenjiang delegation. This presents a valuable opportunity to strengthen ties and explore mutually beneficial avenues for cooperation. Grenada remains committed to sustainable development, and we look forward to fruitful discussions with our esteemed counterparts from Zhenjiang.”

Ambassador Hongtian echoed these sentiments, stating, “China values the opportunity to collaborate with Grenada in various sectors. Zhenjiang’s strength in technological innovation and environmental protection aligns well with Grenada’s developmental goals. We are committed to fostering relations that bring shared benefits and contribute to the prosperity of both nations.”

Both parties expressed optimism for immense potential for collaboration between Grenada and Zhenjiang. The Grenada Chamber of Industry and Commerce eagerly anticipates hosting the Zhenjiang delegation and engaging in substantive discussions with the private sector, further solidifying the foundation for enduring collaboration.
