A contingent of 4 departs Grenada on Tuesday, 18 July to participate in the 20th edition of the World Aquatics Championships which commenced on 14 July and continues to 30 July 2023, in Fukuoka, Japan.
The delegation comprises 2 national swimmers, Tilly Collymore and Zackary Gresham, and 2 officials, Coach Damique Walters and Gail Purcell, GASA’s Vice President.
The swimmers will join over 2,000 aquatic athletes competing in artistic swimming, diving, swimming, and open-water swimming competitions. The pool swimming component runs from 23 – 29 July, where our athletes will compete in 2 events each. Gresham will compete in the 100 m Backstroke and 100 m Butterfly, and Collymore in the 100 m Freestyle and the 50 m Freestyle.
Participation in the World Aquatic Championships affords the swimmers an opportunity to compete amongst world-class swimmers. Additionally, it provides opportunities for participation in workshops and training sessions, such as stroke analysis sessions and facilitated workshops on numerous topics.
In addition to support received from World Aquatics, GASA extends gratitude to the Ministry of Sports and the Grenada Olympic Committee for the additional support provided to realise the team’s participation. The Grenada Amateur Swimming Association wishes the team a safe journey and successful competitions.
