Grenada will create history when the Rotary District  7030 conference opens on Thursday, 13 April 2023.

This will be the fourth such conference held in Grenada, taking place with Grenada’s son of the soil Leslie Ramdhanny OBE as Governor of the District. District 7030 consists of clubs from St Kitts to Suriname and is considered as one of the most diverse districts in Rotary worldwide.

With Rotarians throughout District 7030 and some parts of the United States flying in for the momentous occasion, the local organising committee chaired by Past President Richard Strachan has been working assiduously to secure a major success for Rotary and Grenada.

The local organising committee is pleased to announce the following speakers at this year’s conference.

Prime Minister Hon. Dickon Mitchell is a Grenadian politician and attorney serving as the ninth Prime Minister of Grenada since being elected into office on 24 June 2022. He is the leader of the National Democratic Congress (NDC). PM Mitchell received an LLB (Hons) from the University of the West Indies at Cave Hill, and then completed his Legal Education Certificate at Hugh Wooding Law School in 2002.

Ananthanarayanan Venkatesh is a current RI Director and the RI Treasurer. He graduated with an engineering degree from the Indian Institute of Technology Madras and earned his Master’s degree in Business Administration at the Indian Institute of Management Ahmedabad. He entered the civil construction business at age 23 and currently heads a construction firm with more than 1,400 employees. He has been a member of the Builders’ Association of India since 1998.

Shakuntala Haraksingh Thilsted is the CGIAR Director for Nutrition, Health and Food Security Impact Area Platform. She was previously the Global Lead for Nutrition and Public Health at WorldFish. She was awarded the 2021 World Food Prize for her groundbreaking research, critical insights, and landmark innovations in developing holistic, nutrition-sensitive approaches to aquatic food systems.

Sergeant Major Dr Johnson G. Beharry, VC, COG. From Grenadian poverty to being awarded the Victoria Cross and becoming a national hero, the life story of Colour Sergeant Johnson Gideon Beharry, VC, COG is quite simply remarkable.

The local organising committee anticipates more than 300 Rotarians, Partners-in-Service and other Friends of Rotary will attend the conference.
