I said last week we would hit 1,000 active cases by the end of this week, we are at 859 with the weekend to go. This is what happens in a largely unvaccinated population when the virus starts to hit hard, it is exacerbated by lax behaviour. The NNP government of Grenada bears some responsibility for this. Their slack response to testing, until this week, has contributed to the “it won’t happen to us” attitude. I do not personally believe, although I have no proof, that cases have been so low for so long, just that we did not know due to lack of testing. The virus has probably been among us, in asymptomatic form, for many months.
It’s highly doubtful this virus was among us for months undetected. About 2.5% of infected persons get seriously ill to the point of requiring ventilation so if this had been spreading for months there would be literally thousands of infected people which means that there would have been scores of people being admitted to the hospital requiring ventilation to breathe. So it’s impossible for it to have remain hidden for such a significant length of time.
Good God we’re now over 1000 active cases so quickly as Anthony said we’d be, that’s nearly 1% of the population. The vaccine uptake is still pathetic so we’re locked down again. We’re all suffering now mainly because some idiots didn’t follow the protocols, the quarantine period was shortened for incoming people and most of us didn’t get vaccinated when we should.
Sorry, 1000 confirmed cases. Doesn’t make much difference, it could be 1000 active cases when the next test data comes in.
