Grenada now has 11 active Covid-19 cases, with the addition of 5 new cases in the last 24 hours.

The daily dashboard produced by the Ministry of Health indicates that all the current cases are import-related.

The latest cases range in age from 22–46 years and include 2 males and 3 females, all of whom are fully vaccinated. The cases are all quarantined in various facilities across the country.

All of the new cases entered the country on 6 August from the United States and are currently asymptomatic.

In addition to the 5 most recent cases, another 2 cases were previously identified on 5 and 6 August. One of the cases, a male Trinidadian national, is asymptomatic; while the other, a female Jamaican, is experiencing nasal congestion, headache, sinus pain, and coughing.

The latest cases bring the total number to 178 of Covid-19 cases recorded in Grenada since the start of the pandemic in March 2020.

The Ministry of Health has confirmed that the 51 outstanding test results, from persons who were contacts of case #170, have all returned negative, allaying fears of possible community spread.

The Ministry of Health continues to advise persons to comply with the various Covid-19 protocols — maintain physical distance, avoid large gatherings, wear masks while in public spaces and wash or sanitise hands frequently.

The Ministry also continues to encourage Grenadians to get vaccinated, as this helps to reduce the severity of symptoms associated with Covid-19.

To date, 21,859 people have received their first dose of the Oxford–AstraZeneca vaccine, while 17,013 Grenadians have received both doses.

This proves that the stupid policy to let only vaccinated people in the country is total nonsense, seen as they are the ones more prone to catch covid, Time to rethink your policy I say MOH otherwise it seems you will be losing out big time and bringing Covid into the country when you barely had any cases.

The fact of the matter is simple the stimulus package was not used for the purpose it was given.
Now that the government is a majority share holder of Grenlec they can use some of the profits to assist.

What an absurd situation: we have deliberately opened our doors to those who are bringing in the much stronger Delta variant – without making any changes to the capacity of our health care system to address increasing COVID-19 contamination! What insanity.
We now know that the vaccinated can get and bring in the virus so the whole idea of a “vaccine passport” is ridiculous at best. Do our policymakers think clearly? The growing evidence strongly suggests that their policy decisions are illogical and completely counterproductive. They seem to be on a deliberate track to the Twilight Zone.

Why is a COVID Test so expensive in Grenada? Over $400 is no incentive for poor people to tested. The same test is $27 in St. VINCENT.

There should NOT be ANY CHARGE for any resident of Grenada to be checked for covid. This is a PUBLUC HEALTH concern, Grenada was gifted tests and thousands of dollars to provide testing for FREE to residents. Stop this rip off of Grenadians!! This crappy government needs to stop this garbage. No one needs to pay for testing.

How do you expect to control Covid if you rob people to be tested for exposure to the disease which is at the hands if the government who allowed travellers in???

You are disgusting and have NO desire to protect Grenadians.

It’s disgusting that government or anyone is allowed to extort poor people. The eatafood mentality on backs of people has taken a toll in Grenada. I am at a loss of how it can be $27 in St. Vincent while it is $400 in Grenada. Nothing more of taking advantage of their privilege.

Well, if the concerns are within the vaccinated community, surely its time to implement 7 days quarantine for all, vaccinated or not.

Absolutely correct. There is a period, not defined by hours, but the first part of the first week where the PCR cannot detect the virus, so someone contracting covid on the way to the airport will not be able to be accurately tested until AFTER they have left the current quarantine. A recipe for disaster. 7 days should be the absolute minimum.

Even though the 51 tests returned negative results, it’s still notably coincidental that these 5 cases of fully vaccinated visitors testing positive are occurring now, at the same time it’s also very unsettling. How did #170 get it? How did the latest five? If there are asymptomatic infected and contagious Grenadians, wouldn’t (many more) cases have been occurring all along? Is it the Delta or Alpha variant? Aren’t breakthroughs, as these are, only possible with the Delta? Bottom line, answers are needed, and the time has come to double down on mitigations -testing, contact tracing, masks, distancing, self quarantine, hygiene, etc

So. The strategy to let vaccinated people into Grenada is NOT working, right? Or is there another “excuse” that we will be told about why we should continue to keep our borders open? An absurd decision when it was made (pre-Delta variant) and an even more absurd decision being upheld now that Delta has arrived in Grenada. Utter rubbish.

They still counting #170 as “imported” even though their own data suggests she caught it on-island. Like, if she came in with the virus, she would have been infectious to the people around her. Instead, she tested positive two weeks later, on the way out, which suggests she picked it up in the few days before leaving and was not infectious yet….

Well its only if MOH is lying as the story said the lady came to Grenada for 1 week; she spent 2 in quarantine and the other 5 out roaming around. If she caught it online the way Grenadians behaving with breaking the law and having jab etc there would be much more persons sick as everyone can’t be asymptomatic. We have been on island without covid for1 year when the borders opened it was always imported cases. All the months we were in lock down cases should have surfaced it didn’t. Whatever we get here is from what is brought in

You have no idea who is positive on Grenada because you are not testing as many people as should be tested. Hiw can someone fully vaccinated, who MUST have a NEGATIVE test and be APPROVED by the government get into Grenada? You cannot be asymptomatic positive for covid and test Negative before you arrive. Let’s use some logic here. You haven’t been encouraging local Grenadians to be tested for months and then you think you should charge for a rest. Government was gifted thise tests and thousands of dollars besides to purchase tests, to provide FREE TESTING to Grenadians NOT to make money off their backs. By demanding payment you work against detection of the disease. Stop being so darn stupid.

As far as I remember, we were only gifted rapid-tests (not the PCR ones), but you’re right that there’s little in-country testing happening. Apparently, the MOH’s only gauge for whether there’s community spread is if the hospital is filling up, which is a scary thought indeed.

Go back and read of the MILLIONS of USD plus all the rest of the millions given and borrowed for covid support. These monies were not just to dust out to government cronies but to absolutely provide free testing for covid in PCR tests for poorer countries like Grenada. Do you ANY of you actually pay attention to what goes on with your government???

Best advice coming from the Health Department.
