Prime Minister Dr the Right Hon. Keith Mitchell has extended congratulations to Dr Dessima Williams on her new appointment with the United Nations.
The former Grenada Permanent Representative to the United Nations and former Chair of the Alliance of Small Island Developing States (AOSIS) was appointed Special Advisor in charge of the team for the implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals in the office of the President of the General Assembly for the 71st session.
In congratulating Dr Williams, Grenada’s Prime Minister said that the former Ambassador “has a proven record of hard work, leadership and commitment to the campaign for climate change and sustainable development. The new assignment therefore, comes as no surprise as she will continue to be recognized internationally for her unwavering dedication to the cause. As Grenadians, we are all justly proud of her and we have no doubt that she will be a great asset to the office of the President of the General Assembly.”
Ambassador Williams was one of the two top advisors assigned by the President-elect of the UN General Assembly, Ambassador Peter Thomson of Fiji.
