Five years after the staging of their 10th Dance Show and Awards in 2018, preparations are now underway for Conception Dance Theatre’s 11th Dance Show, ‘Triumph’, set for Sunday, 9 July, at the Grenada Trade Centre.
“Our students have been preparing diligently to make our first dance show in 5 years a triumphant return to the stage,” said Cecilia Griffith, Artistic Director of Conception Dance Theatre. “Last year, our in-person recital following 2 years of virtual classes and performances was very well-received. We are excited to now present a full showcase from our students and company members.”
Conception Dance Theatre, with its dance school and professional performance company, specializes in Acro, Ballet, Modern and Grenadian/Caribbean Folk forms. This year’s show will highlight the diversity and skills of the dance students with the modern showcase, School Days, and ballet showcase, Variations. In Variations, the students will perform an adaption of Swan Lake in the reflection of the Grenada Dove. In addition to choreographic offerings from Artistic Director Cecilia Griffith, Conception’s Dance Show will feature choreography by Fayola Edwards, Andria Esdaille, Leah Joseph, Noyda Noel, Keith Williams, and guest choreographer Shola K Roberts from Dance Grenada Inc.
Creating dancers with great attitudes and flexibility in mind, body and soul continues to be integral part of Conception Dance Theatre’s mission, and has contributed to Conception’s recognition as one of the top dance schools in Grenada. In 2023, Conception’s most notable performances included:
- St Paul’s Independence Extravaganza featuring 98 students and the performance company
- National Independence Day Celebrations
- Carriacou Maroon and Stringband Music Festival
- Petite Martinique Whitsuntide Regatta
Conception Dance Theatre’s Dance Show starts at 6 pm on Sunday, 9 July, at the Grenada Trade Centre. Tickets are available from Conception Dance Theatre members, parents, and the dance studio. Tickets can also be bought on entry to the show at no extra cost.
