  1. Why did you pursue joining the Sandals brand?

I joined Sandals because working for an international brand that is Caribbean-owned felt like a good fit for someone like me who also has Caribbean roots with an International perspective.

  1. How has your Sandals experience empowered/uplifted you?

My Sandals experience thus far has been an amazing journey that has pushed me personally and professionally. I am constantly surrounded by inspiring team members who challenge me to keep doing my best.

  1. What has been your greatest challenge during your Sandals journey?

One of my greatest challenges was in 2020 when we said goodbye to our last guests and closed the Hotel due to Covid. We then began the process of securing furniture and fixtures for protection as we were all unsure how long the lockdown would last. Going from a very busy workday to a complete stop was a shock to my system, but it made me realise how much I enjoy what I do.

  1. How have you evolved as a person during your time at Sandals?

I have evolved as a person with Sandals in many ways through my regional travel. Working on different islands and getting to understand what motivates people and what their values are has helped me to become more open-minded. I am constantly learning new things and keeping up with the latest Design and Hospitality trends.

  1. What are some personal milestones and/ or major life events you’ve experienced recently? How have they affected your perspective?

After the passing of my dad, I view life differently. I stop to appreciate the small things, and I don’t take anything for granted. I work hard every day, hoping to still make him proud.

  1. Have you faced any barriers in your career due to being a woman? If so, how did you overcome them?

Being in the Construction field and often the only Woman in meetings, I sometimes feel a doubtful vibe when dealing with new contractors or companies. Determined to not let this get to me, I am always prepared and stand firm with what I know to be true. I am also lucky to work with a team who have confidence in me and supports me when I need it.

  1. As a Leading Lady, you are in a position of power. What does the idea of power mean to you?

Having power means having influence, and as an influential woman, this is not something I take lightly. It’s important to me to lead by example and show others that you can be assertive but respectful; successful but humble.

  1. Who has been instrumental in supporting you during your development here? How did they support you?

I have been lucky to work with Project Managers who see the potential in me and push me to succeed. Knowing that I have this support gives me the confidence to keep reaching new goals.

  1. What is the most important piece of advice you have been given?

If you don’t go after what you want, you’ll never have it. If you don’t ask, the answer is always no.

  1. What is the most important message you want to send out to young women thinking about their careers?

I wish for young women to be fearless when thinking about their future. Even if you don’t have a plan, have a vision of who you want to be and the type of life you wish to live. You may not have the job experience but if you show up with a positive attitude, many doors will open up for you.

  1. Why do you think diversity in the workplace is so important?

Diversity is important because the world is diverse and more than ever, people are travelling and working abroad. It’s important that workplaces reflect the changing world, and people feel represented and respected.

  1. What are you looking forward to?

I’m looking forward to growing with Sandals as they set to open more resorts in the coming years.
