Grenada Red Cross Society to establish hand washing stations

One of the activities of the Grenada Red Cross Society (GRCS) in its response to the Covid-19 pandemic is working toward establishing at least one public hand washing station in each parish, throughout Grenada, Carriacou and Petite Martinique.

Since the outbreak of the virus, the Ministry of Health and other regional and international health agencies crafted a number of safety and protective measures aimed at reducing its spread.

In addition to the wearing of masks and physical/social distancing, handwashing has also been cited as another key preventative measure.

With the country having to adjust to these new practices, the GRCS, through its Covid-19 response operation, will work with community partners to establish hand washing stations in key areas.

The main objective is to ensure access to appropriate and sustainable water, sanitation, and hygiene services to prevent community transmission of the coronavirus.

The GRCS is currently finalising the logistical stages of the project with some locations already identified.

    Hello T Joy

    Thanks for your comment

Handwashing is recommended before sanitizing. Sanitizers are recommended when you csnnot hand wash. The location of the Handwashing stations are chosen by the community after consultation through a community engagement and accountability process. These locations are near public facilities and would be preferred to sanitizing. They will be utilized by many persons. Those stations are only a small step ….l the things you suggested can and still must be done.

    We are in this together

THE HAND WASHING STATION IS A BAD IDEA. You can spend this money in a better way. Grenada has lots of ALOEVERA and Grenada knows how to make ALCOHOL (as a matter of fact ,dont no a Spiceman who cant make ALCOHOL 🙂 . Did Grenada mix these to together as yet to distribute to the public at all road crossings,? Seems like everytime someone does something it’s for a SHOW AND PUT UP A SIGN. Who is gonna travel to a station out of their way only to have their hands contaminated on the way back to where they started from in the first place. Dont be silly. Grenada’s parishes are not the size of a building. You may meet covid at the single station (once the crowd builds up). SOLUTION: (1) Create the sanitizing liquid (2) Hand it out to all bus drivers to start. (3) Require all bus drivers to carry these donated sanitizing liquids in their bus to make avail to all riders. This may be the best start. THE HAND WASHING STATION IS A BAD IDEA.

      Hello T. Joy
Thank you for your feedback. While you’ve raised additional ideas for sanitizing, handwashing has been recommended first and in the absence of handwashing, then sanitize. This is a community collaboration where Community engagement and accountability methodology is used to agree on the location of the handwashing stations, mostly near schools and public places where they will be utilized by many.
