Sand mining is business.
Consequences: disappearing beaches (Grenada’s main source of income!)
Destroys the habitat of bottom-dwelling creatures and organisms.
Disrupts riparian ecosystems with fatal consequences for fish and other aquatic organisms and “disaster” for many bird species.
Threatens important mangrove forests, seagrass beds and endangered species like Irrawaddy and spinner dolphins, and the royal turtle.
It leads to soil erosion, sinkhole formation, loss of biodiversity, and contamination of soil and water.
