Twelve persons are participating in the 2013 Grenada Sailing Association Instructor Training Course which is scheduled to conclude on Friday.
Internationally qualified coach Mr Earl Tobias who is Head Coach & Chief Instructor of the Trinidad & Tobago Sailing Academy began training the young Grenadian instructors from 2 September at the Grenada Yacht Club. “The 12 participants in the course have been selected from the various clubs and are pleased to participate in this fantastic opportunity,” said a statement from the GSA.
The newly-elected representatives of the Grenada Sailing Association Executive recently met with Minister for Sport Hon. Emmalin Pierre, and Permanent Secretary Mrs Veda Bruno–Victor, to give an update on the ongoing work of the Association, and to discuss its plans for the future.
The Association identified one of its top priorities as being the Junior Sailing Programme. A primary aim of the GSA is to assist and support the clubs that are established and implement a standardised, structured training programme, so that young people learn to sail competitively to the ISAF International standards.
It was agreed that this goal complemented the initiatives of the Ministry — particularly the new Community Sports Programme — and that assistance would be available via Olympic Committee Funding. Further funding was raised with many thanks to generous donations from Camper & Nicholsons Port Louis Marina, Budget Marine, Island Dreams and Horizon Yacht Charters.
