Grenada is one of the islands that will experience the music of soul singer Carolyn Malachi, as part of a 3 nation tour that will see her engaging in free public concerts.

She will be in Grenada on 19 November, performing at 6:30 pm at the St George’s University. The tour is organised by the US Embassy to Barbados, which is also responsible for the Eastern Caribbean.

Carolyn Malachi is a Grammy-nominated R&B/jazz singer from Washington, DC, She will be accompanied by drummer Wes Watkins; bassist Jerel Abraham; and keyboardist Branden Jacobs. These gifted musicians blend together many distinctive styles of American music, including jazz, rhythm and blues, hip-hop, and go-go.

Using her music and social media platforms as forces for good, she advocates for global access to education and technology through collaborations with the School Fund, GRAMMY U and the Global Fund for Women.

The US Embassy is hosting this series of public concerts to underscore the excellence and diversity of American music, and to promote cultural exchange. “This concert series will appeal to a wide range of music lovers, specifically jazz enthusiasts, R&B fans, young and upcoming musicians, music students, and the general public,” said the statement which explained that the US Embassy will continue its support of the arts in Barbados and the Eastern Caribbean through dynamic cultural initiatives and programming.

Malachi and her team will be arriving in Grenada on Friday, 18 November, and will be conducting a Masterclass that afternoon, for the benefit of Grenadian music students and musicians, at the Grenada Boys Secondary School. “This tour will help highlight the diversity of American music, facilitate cultural exchange, and promote music as an educational tool,” said an Embassy official.
