A total of 2,645 candidates were registered to write CXC (CSEC) examinations in May/June 2016. 1,927 were students attending schools and 718 were private candidates. There were 12,770 subject entries.

Overall there were 1,339 Grade Ones; 2,989 Grade Twos; 4,152 Grade Threes; 2,516 Grade Fours; 1,124 Grade Fives; 78 Grade Sixes; and 601 ungraded or absent.

The pass rate in the examination is 69.52%. In 2015, the pass rate was 70.8%

The largest entries were in English A (1,790), Mathematics (1,562), Social Studies (940), Principles of Business (635) and Information Technology (567).

The lowest entries were in Music (1), Mechanical Engineering Technology (12), Theatre Arts (25), Additional Mathematics (29), and Religious Education (77).

The subjects with the highest percentage pass were Physical Education and Sport (99.45%), Principles of Business (94.6%), Food and Nutrition (92.4%) Theatre Arts (90%) and Biology (88.64%).

The subjects with the lowest percentage pass were Mechanical Engineering Technology (37.5%), Mathematics (38.23%), Religious Education (56.76%), Chemistry (57.42%) and Spanish (58%).

Performance in Mathematics declined from 54.4% pass in 2015, to 38.23% pass in 2016. Performance in English A improved from 57.74% pass in 2015, to 64.36% pass in 2016.

The top performances in the Examination are placed in descending order of Grade 1.

Performances in Physics and Biology improved in 2016, while performance in Chemistry declined. However, Grenada’s performance in these areas is above the region’s performance.

NB: The Ministry of Education and Human Resource Development has not yet received the preliminary slips for individual candidates from the Caribbean Examinations Council (CXC). Therefore, candidates will have to collect their slips next week when they are received from the council. However, candidates can view their results online on CXC’s website as of Tuesday 17 August). www.cxc.org
