“It’s our expectation that our contribution will make Spicemas 2016 a tremendous success,” said Grenlec’s representative when he presented the company’s sponsorship financial contribution to Spicemas Corporation on Thursday, at the SMC office in the Grenada Cooperative Nutmeg Association (GCNA) complex.
Presented by Cleaver Williams, a member of the senior management, was a symbolic carnival craft piece reflecting all categories of traditional mas’ — the part of Carnival that the company will be directly sponsoring. The financial contribution from Grenlec will be EC$25,000.
Traditional Mas’ includes: Short Knee, Vieux Croix, Maypole Dancers, Jab Jab and Moko Jumbies. Seetahal said that there are 14 registered traditional mas’ bands.
“Grenlec is pleased to join the other corporate bodies to support Spicemas 2016,” Williams said, while giving the assurance the lone electricity provider will continue to support all cultural activities.
Receiving the symbolic craft piece and the ceremonial handing over of the cheque, was Chief Executive Officer of SMC Kirk Seetahal, who thanked Grenlec for its continued support.
After receiving the contribution from Grenlec, Seetahal disclosed that the overall production of carnival costs approximately $3 million, and at present SMC is short by $500,000. “But we are doing all we can to meet our expenditure, and at the same time give the people a good quality product,” he said, while calling for companies to come forward to be partners with SMC.
