Costing almost EC$3 million to produce, the local organising committee of CARIFTA 2016 has given the assurance that the event will be a positive memorable experience in which Grenada as host country will be working towards getting 26 medals.

The funding of the Games came from a variety of partners, with FLOW as the title sponsor, and other companies gaining exclusive rights sponsors. Exclusive rights sponsors are Glenelg Spring Water and Grenada Bottling Company products and Grenada Breweries.

Chairman of the Sponsorship Committee Aaron Moses disclosed on Monday during a ceremony where local sponsor presented cheques, that there is still a shortfall of EC$700,000 and the door is still open for other companies to throw their support behind the 3-day event, which will be held 26 to 28 March at the National Athletic Stadium.

More than 800 athletes along with sporting officials from 28 countries are expected to be in Grenada for the Games, which will comprise of 6 sessions. Chairman of the LOC has given the assurance that it will be one of the best Games. “We as a committee are working very hard to present to the Caribbean, a Games, when talked about, positive things will be said,” Bruno-Victor said in her update to the media.

In the area of tickets, it was announced that some areas of the stadium are already sold out, and because the rules and regulations for international games will apply, guarantee to entry will only be a ticket.

“The security aspect will be fully enforced and adopted, and there will be no standing in the main pavilion,” said George Cherubin, who is a member of the media committee. He further explained that Grenada’s failure to not comply with the rules can have negative consequences for future games.

The stadium has a seating capacity of 7,026.
