The Ministry of Health on Wednesday recognised the Grenada, Carriacou and Petite Martinique Association of Nurses, for their invaluable contributions towards the development of Health care in Grenada.

The ceremony took place at the arrival lounge of the Melville Street Cruise Terminal, where fifty-seven nurses along with some of their relatives attended the function after disembarking a cruise ship.

First to officially welcome the visiting nurses was Permanent Secretary in the (MOH) Mrs Veda Bruno-Victor. She also told the nurses that many kind words have been said about them and their spirit of giving back to Grenada.

The Permanent Secretary’s remarks were immediately followed by remarks from Minister for Health the Hon. Nickolas Steele, who not only welcomed the nurses, but presented the Ministry’s award for dedicated services to the organization. He described the association’s contributions to Grenada as noble and valuable.

Minister Steele told the large contingent of nurses that he not only appreciates their contributions, but felt it was a privilege to recognize and associate with them.

Meanwhile, to the Ministry’s delight, President of the Grenada, Carriacou and Petite Martinique Association of Nurses – Mrs Raheeman Frederick donated a baby and toddler scale to the Grand Bras Health Centre along with other medical accessories.

She told the gathering that her membership believes it is a pleasure working for their country (Grenada), and that they will continue to do so as long as they keep together and are able to give back to their country.

Wednesday’s ceremony was also attended by several officials representing the (MOH) including Permanent Secretary Javon Williams, Assistant Director of Nursing – Mrs Hazelyn Benjamin, Chief Community Health Nurse – Mrs Debbie Francis, Mrs Ester Henry-Fleary, and Advisor to the Minister for Health Mrs Ann David Antoine.

The association has been in operation for just over 34 years and throughout its existence donated thousands of US dollars in equipment and services towards the development of Health care in Grenada.
