The National Football Women’s Team start preparations for the inaugural Windward Island Football Association (WIFA) Women’s Tournament on the weekend.

A press release from the Grenada Football Association said that the group of 30 who were engaged in two regional friendlies over the Christmas holiday — one against St. Vincent and the Grenadines and the other with Barbados Women’s Team will continue preparations from Saturday 17 January at the Queen’s Park Playing Field from 9 am.

Coached by Franklyn “Nat” Simpson the female footballers will be engaged in weekend trainings until the hosting of the Tournament in March 2015 in St. Vincent and Grenadines. The decision to introduce the tournament was taken by WIFA Presidents at a meeting convened in St. Vincent and the Grenadines on the 29 November 2014, as a need for greater participation of teams in regional and international tournaments.
