- Men’s javelin discipline contested across Rabat, Rome, Doha, Lausanne, and Zurich, ahead of final in Brussels
- Currently sits at number two on Diamond League all-time performance list
- Shares top of table with Rumesh Tharanga Pathirage
Two-time World Champion Anderson Peters has moved to 15 points in the 2026 Wanda Diamond League standings following a solid second-place finish at the meeting in Rome, held Thursday, 4 June 2026.
Peters launched his Diamond League campaign on 31 May, with a victory at the Rabat Diamond League, recording a distance of 86.08 metres to collect a maximum 8 points. He followed up that winning performance in Rome, registering an 83.91-metre effort to secure 7 points for second place, behind the eventual winner, Rumesh Tharanga Pathirage, who produced a world-leading meeting record of 92.62 metres.
The men’s javelin discipline is being contested across 5 specific stops: Rabat, Rome, Doha, Lausanne, and Zurich, ahead of the crown-jewel final in Brussels on 4–5 September. Under the Diamond League scoring system, athletes are awarded points on an 8-to-1 scale for ranking first through eighth, respectively. The top 6 point-scorers in the field events automatically qualify for the prestigious Diamond League Final.
With the Rabat and Rome legs now completed, the 2024 Olympic Bronze Medallist sits alongside Pathirage at the very top of the qualification table with 15 points apiece.
Reflecting on the day’s outcome, Peters remained pragmatic about the result. “Second place with 83.91m is pretty good. I won in Rabat, this time I came second — you win some and you lose some, this is athletics.”
Peters, who captured the Diamond League Final title in 2024, remains one of the most prolific throwers in the history of the circuit. He currently sits at number two on the Diamond League all-time performance list, courtesy of his historic 93.07-metre throw achieved in Doha, Qatar, in 2022.
While the wider Diamond League circuit moves to Stockholm, Sweden on 7 June, Peters is expected to return to the runway in Doha on 19 June, where he will look to build on his strong qualification foundation and break the tie at the top of the standings.
