Minister of Climate Resilience, the Environment and Renewable Energy, Hon. Kerryne James, participated as a distinguished panellist in the Ministerial Session titled The Policy Bridge: Harmonising Frameworks for Continental Integration at the prestigious Africa Energy Technology Conference 2026.
The high-level dialogue convened policymakers, regulators, and energy leaders to examine the regulatory and policy barriers that continue to impede regional and continental energy trade and cooperation.
The panel focused on the urgent need to align legal frameworks, tariffs, regulations, and energy policies to facilitate the seamless flow of energy across borders and support resilient, integrated energy systems. Discussions emphasised the importance of collaboration and policy coherence in accelerating energy access, sustainability, and economic development.
Minister James highlighted the unique vulnerabilities and opportunities faced by island nations in the global energy transition. She underscored the importance of equitable partnerships, flexible regulatory mechanisms, and inclusive financing arrangements that enable SIDS to fully participate in emerging regional and international energy markets. Minister James also used the platform to advocate for greater inclusion of women and youth in the energy sector. She stressed that meaningful participation must go beyond representation and extend into decision-making processes, leadership roles, and the practical application of emerging energy technologies.
“Women and young people must not only be viewed as beneficiaries of the energy transition, but as innovators, leaders, and active contributors shaping the future of sustainable energy systems,” Minister James stated during the session.
The minister further noted that building human capacity and creating pathways for youth engagement are essential for ensuring a just and sustainable energy transition, particularly within vulnerable developing economies.
Grenada’s participation at the conference reflects the Government’s continued commitment to strengthening international partnerships, advancing renewable energy deployment, and contributing to global dialogue on sustainable and resilient energy systems.
