  • One of Grenada’s youngest-ever CARIFTA medalists
  • Secured bronze in Under-17 Triple Jump with personal best jump of 11.32 metres
  • Third Grenadian to medal in event at regional level

Thirteen-year-old Kaelynna Modeste has become one of Grenada’s youngest-ever CARIFTA medalists, securing bronze in the Under-17 Triple Jump at the 2026 Games. Her performance brings Grenada’s historical tally in this event to one gold and 3 bronze medals.

Following in the footsteps of Christanna Charles and Nichonier George, Modeste is the third Grenadian to medal in the event at the regional level. The games were held from 4–6 April at the Kirani James Athletics Stadium.

Modeste, a sub-junior student-athlete at St Andrew’s Anglican Secondary School (SAASS), was an integral member of the squad that recently secured the InterCol girls’ title, contributing to a historic double victory for the school. She earned her selection to Team Grenada following a consistent domestic season, which included winning the Under-17 Long Jump national title (5.22m) and the InterCol Sub-Junior Long Jump title (5.38m). At the InterCol Games, she also earned a silver medal in the Open Triple Jump with a mark of 10.36m, finishing behind defending champion Christanna Charles.

At CARIFTA, Modeste competed against a field of older and more experienced athletes. She recorded a personal best jump of 11.32 metres to secure the bronze medal, a nearly one-metre improvement over her InterCol distance.

The gold medal was won by Jazae Johnson of The Bahamas with 12.35m, while Stefvanco Henry of Jamaica took silver with 11.51m.

Modeste’s podium finish highlights Grenada’s continued development in field events and signals a promising trajectory for the young athlete on the regional stage.
