The National Telecommunications Regulatory Commission (NTRC) is pleased to announce the signing of a contract with Affordable Island Communications Inc. for the supply and installation of information and communication technology (ICT) equipment at the New Life Organisation (NEWLO) campuses located in Mt St Ervans, St Andrew and Palmiste, St John.
Following a competitive bidding process, the NTRC, under its Universal Service Fund (USF) Programme, approved the award of the contract in the amount of $2,118,930.80 to Affordable Island Communications Inc.
This project will include an upgrade of the ICT infrastructure at NEWLO and the installation of IT equipment, including, but not limited to, computers, smartboards, and wireless internet access points. The project will significantly modernise the ICT infrastructure at NEWLO campuses enabling the institution to integrate modern technologies into teaching and learning. It will also support the delivery of hybrid learning (online and in person classes) and expand the existing ICT lab facilities.
The Universal Service Fund was established under Section 42 of the Telecommunications Act No. 31 of 2000 to facilitate the expansion of telecommunications services across Grenada, Carriacou, and Petite Martinique, specifically the unserved and underserved communities, maritime areas, special interest groups such as people with disabilities, and institutions serving the public needs e.g. schools and hospitals. Through the USF, the NTRC supports projects which advance digital inclusion, ICT development, and access to telecommunication services.
