The Government of Grenada obtained a copy of Grenada’s Seismic Dataset acquired in the Grenada Maritime Basin by GEOEX MCG LLC, an international multi-client seismic company which conducted a seismic survey in Grenada’s maritime acreage in 2018.

Before conducting the survey, the company sent a Draft Seismic Data Transfer and Revenue Sharing Agreement to the then Government of Grenada. This was with a view to conclude an agreement in which Grenada would receive a copy of the data acquired and share in the revenues earned by the company while sub-licensing the data to the international oil companies; unfortunately, no actions were taken to complete this agreement.

The draft agreement first came to the attention of Prime Minister Hon. Dickon Mitchell in September 2023, when the company advised that it had been approached by a fraudster holding himself as a spokesman for the Government of Grenada, authorised to negotiate the terms of the agreement on behalf of the Government.

After months of discussions and negotiations, a delegation from the company, led by its president, Robert Sorley, arrived in Grenada on Wednesday, 9 April 2025, and engaged in discussions with Grenada’s Hydrocarbons Technical Working Group. In a transmittal ceremony held at the Ministerial Complex, the president handed over a copy of the long-awaited Grenada’s Seismic Dataset, acquired in the Grenada Maritime Basin, to the Chairman of the Technical Working Group V Nazim Burke.

The dataset was handed over to Grenada pending the conclusion of the Seismic Data Transfer and Revenue Sharing Agreement, the terms of which are now being finalised.

During the engagement, the chairman of the TWG acknowledged that this engagement was a demonstration of good faith on the part of the company and expressed gratitude on behalf of the Government of Grenada.

These folks are getting more ridiculous by the day.
You don’t need a signings ceremony and a photo op. to collect data on a memory stick.
A total waste of our resources.
