The Government of Grenada is pleased to celebrate the 20th anniversary of the resumption of diplomatic relations between Grenada and the People’s Republic of China.
This significant milestone marks 2 decades of cooperation and mutual respect between the two nations.
Since the re-establishment of diplomatic relations on 20 January 2005, Grenada and China have fostered a strong relationship based on trust, solidarity, and a shared vision for sustainable growth and development. Over the last 2 decades, this collaboration has resulted in meaningful achievements across various sectors, including agriculture, culture, education, health, infrastructure and tourism.
To commemorate this historic occasion, an official visit was made to the People’s Republic of China from 11–17 January 2025, by a delegation led by Prime Minister Honourable Dickon Mitchell, setting the stage for an even brighter future of cooperation.

The visit included the inaugural China–Grenada Economic, Trade, and Investment Cooperation Forum; a visit to the Museum of the Chinese Communist Party; and meetings with President Xi Jinping, Premier Li Qiang, the Mayor of Ningbo H E Tang Feifan, and the Mayor of Shanghai Gong Zheng.
The delegation visited the Zhoushan Port, located in the Zhejiang Province, and got the opportunity to explore the dynamic operations of one of China’s largest ports, providing insight into shipping efficiency, trade, and knowledge transfer.
Another significant visit was to the BYD plant, a global leader in the production of electric vehicles. The team received a tour of the facility and a full demonstration of the assembling of the electric school buses. This was a crucial visit as the Government of Grenada is in the process of promoting cleaner energy solutions, and through the Ministry of Transportation, will be implementing a school bus programme in January 2025.
The Government of Grenada is also pleased to announce the signing of 13 cooperation agreements, which cover a wide range of areas including agriculture, arts and culture, renewable energy, tourism, and the blue economy.
During the visit, Prime Minister Honourable Dickon Mitchell was also awarded an honorary professorship from Ningbo University of Technology in recognition of his exemplary leadership, contributions to governance, and dedication to sustainable development, education, and digital technology.
Honourable Dickon Mitchell expressed his gratitude for the partnership between Grenada and the People’s Republic of China, stating: “When we resumed our diplomatic ties in 2005, it was a journey defined by collaboration, understanding, and shared aspirations. Now in 2025, we can look back on this journey and confidently affirm that our partnership has yielded remarkable benefits for the peoples of Grenada and China, significantly contributing to our national development.”
The 20th anniversary is a testament to the enduring friendship and cooperation between Grenada and the People’s Republic of China. Both nations reaffirm their commitment to strengthening this bond, focusing on areas of common interest to foster long-term prosperity for their peoples.
A special celebratory event will be held on Friday, 24 January at the Radisson Grenada Beach Resort to mark our diplomatic relations with the People’s Republic of China.
Prime Minister’s Office

This is troubling. Dickon must know we see through what he is doing. I weep for Grenada. My island.
Ah yes. Now the China propaganda has reached here. I had so much hope for this new administration but they’ve proven to be no different than others. Selling off Grenada bit by bit to an unstable Communist regime that has proven violations of human rights and environmental standards. What could go wrong?
ahahhaha
Do not be easily tricked, beware a wolf in sheep’s clothing.
