Twenty-five professionals completed an intensive Monitoring and Evaluation (M&E) and Data Appreciation Training, designed to enhance their ability to assess and improve the impact of public health programmes.
This transformative initiative was made possible through funding from the World Bank OECS Regional Health Project.
The training was conducted over a 3-day period (26–28 November 2024) and focused on equipping participants with practical skills in data collection, impact assessment, and the use of evidence-based data to inform decision-making. Participants represented a diverse range of government agencies including the Ministry of Health, Wellness and Religious Affairs, the Ministry of Finance and the Ministry of Infrastructure and Physical Development, all of whom are dedicated to driving sustainable development within the country.
Rachael Roberts, Senior Administrative Officer, Administration, Ministry of Health, Wellness and Religious Affairs, in her opening remarks, encouraged participants to “take full advantage of the opportunity that this valuable training experience offers to enhance your skills and knowledge in the area of M&E.”
Patricia Smith-Cummings, Monitoring and Evaluation Specialist, CARPHA, highlighted CARPHA’s commitment to supporting Member States’ efforts “to lead with evidence-based approaches to development.”
Participants shared their enthusiasm for the training received and emphasised their appreciation for the practical knowledge received.
Monitoring and Evaluation are essential components of effective programme development that ensure accountability, transparency, and measurable results. Participants gained exposure in comprehensive M&E tools and methodologies geared towards enhancing their capacity to design robust projects and improve outcomes.
As Small Island Developing States continue to address challenges such as climate change and public health crises, capacity-building initiatives like this M&E training are critical in shaping impactful and sustainable solutions.
The World Bank OECS Regional Health Project is focused on health system strengthening in the Caribbean Region by supporting improvements in health facilities and laboratory capacities, strengthening public health surveillance and emergency management, institutional capacity building, project management and coordination, and contingency emergency response.
