The National Disaster Management Agency (NaDMA) has conducted a successful 2-day workshop in Carriacou that provided participants with valuable insights and tools to manage shelters efficiently, and to undertake thorough damage assessments after a disaster.
The workshop on Shelter Management and Initial Damage and Needs Assessment (IDA), was held at the Emergency Operation Centre in Belair. The facilitator was Natasha James from the Bureau for Humanitarian Assistance and USAID. She’s known for her extensive experience in disaster management.
Participants were educated on crucial aspects of shelter management and the steps necessary to perform accurate initial damage and need assessments following a disaster.
James said that disasters can “strike unexpectedly, emphasising the vital need for preparedness and executing “effective mitigation strategies.”
During the workshop, attendees engaged in interactive sessions and practical exercises to enhance their readiness to respond to emergencies. The workshop was held in preparation for the upcoming hurricane season. As the season approaches, the Ministry of Carriacou and Petite Martinique Affairs and Local Government and NaDMA is reminding everyone to take precautionary measures to be safe.
