On Saturday, 25 April 2026, Classique Lighting Caribbean and Communal Cooperative Credit Union once again partnered to host the Classique Lighting Caribbean Communal Invitational.
Now in its second staging, the invitational delivered on its promise of friendly rivalry and competition, featuring a highly anticipated showdown between the top 4 athletes from the Huggins Private Primary School Championships and the top 4 athletes from the GUT National Primary Schools Championships. The meet remains the only event on the annual athletics calendar where the best of the public school system competes directly against the best of the private schools.
Athletes competed across the Under-7, Under-9, Under-11, and Under-13 divisions in the 60m, 80m, 100m, 150m, 200m, and 400m sprint events, delivering high-quality performances throughout the afternoon.
Medal Standings
By the end of the invitational, public schools emerged with a commanding overall advantage, reflected in the final medal standings:
- Public Schools: 15 Gold, 8 Silver, 11 Bronze
- Private Schools: 1 Gold, 8 Silver, 5 Bronze
Public school athletes recorded several clean sweeps and standout performances across the age categories:
- Under-7 Division: Kalyssa Phillip took top honours in the 60m and 80m events. Leonardo Alexander (Public) claimed the 60m dash, while Xayden DeCoteau Pierre delivered a resilient performance to secure the lone gold medal finish for the private schools in the 80m
- Under-9 Division: Kaylee Abraham and Dimari Paul took top honours for the public schools in both the 80m and 150m events
- Under-11 Division: Taniyah Gibbs LaTouche and Kellie Howell dominated the field in the 100m and 200m events
- Under-13 Division: Jammie Smith was the standout of the senior female bracket, capturing gold in the 100m, 200m, and 400m events. She was joined by Jediel Andrew, who took gold in the 100m and 200m, and Tyrone Alexis, who secured gold in the 400m event
Despite the lopsided medal tally, the invitational once again fulfilled its core objective: providing high-level competitive exposure for young athletes while creating opportunities for corporate teams and community groups to engage through sport.
With strong sponsor support, broad participation, and 2 successful editions now completed, the Classique Lighting Caribbean Communal Invitational continues to establish itself as a flagship athletics event — one that celebrates excellence, builds community, and strengthens Grenada’s communal pathways.
