  • Bronze medal marks 4th time Under-20 male quartet has reached CARIFTA podium
  • Other occasions in 1972, 1973 and 2024
  • Time of 40.18 seconds expected to be ratified as new National Under-20 record

Grenada’s Under-20 men’s relay team delivered a standout performance at the CARIFTA Games, securing a bronze medal in the 4×100 metre final. The quartet, consisting of Ian George, Darrel Daniel, Kneon Mark Stanislaus, and 3-time CARIFTA individual sprint medallist Ethan Sam, crossed the finish line in 40.18 seconds to earn their place on the podium.

The regional powerhouse teams took the top 2 spots, with Trinidad and Tobago claiming gold in 39.64 seconds and Jamaica taking silver in 39.85 seconds.

This bronze medal marks only the 4th time in history that a Grenadian Under-20 male quartet has reached the CARIFTA podium in this event. The 2026 team joins an elite group of athletes who have achieved this feat over the game:

  • 2024: Shaquane Toussaint, Emilio Bishop, Taigon Peterkin, Samuel Green (Bronze)
  • 1973: Grenada Team — unconfirmed (Bronze)
  • 1972: Roy Layne, Russell Lambert, Raymond Layne, Ken Francois (Bronze)

Beyond the medal, the performance carries significant statistical weight. The time of 40.18 seconds is expected to be ratified as a new National Under-20 record.

This mark represents the fastest time ever recorded by a Grenadian U20 4x100m team, bringing the nation closer than ever to breaking the 40-second barrier in this category.
