If you drink alcohol regularly, using taste-test alone to decide whether a beverage is safe for a child is unreliable and unwise.
An adult’s tolerance for alcohol is very different from that of a child. Therefore, the Grenada Food and Nutrition Council (GFNC) encourages parents, guardians, vendors, and school administrators to carefully read beverage labels and ensure that drinks provided to children contain zero alcohol.
Alcohol consumption is not appropriate for children, even in beverages where the alcohol content may range from as low as 0.5% to higher levels of 10% or more. Beverages containing alcohol should not be provided or sold to minors below the legal drinking age.
The public is reminded that the human brain continues developing into the mid-20s. For this reason, GFNC strongly encourages all adult members of the public to choose alcohol-free beverages for children at all times and to check labels before purchasing.
